Fünf Jahre nach dem frühen Tod von Ezio Bosso erscheinen seine letzten unveröffentlichten Kammermusikwerke bei Sony Classical, erstmals aufgenommen nach sorgfältiger Revision der Partituren, in der meisterhaften Interpretation von vier großen Solisten in zwei verschiedenen Kammerbesetzungen Der Pianist und Intellektuelle Francesco Libetta aus dem Salento, der inzwischen das künstlerische Erbe des großen turinischen Komponisten anführt; der Cellist und Dirigent Luigi Piovano, der früher als erster Cellist an der Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia mit Bosso zusammenarbeitete; die Geigerin Grazia Raimondi und der junge Geigenstar Aylen Pritchin, die zu den hochgeschätzten Künstlern auf den besten internationalen Bühnen gehören. Beide Stücke markieren entscheidende Momente in Bossos Leben: Die Sonate für Violine und Klavier Nr. 1 Unconditioned ist die ursprüngliche Fassung, aus der später das berühmte Following a Bird entnommen wurde. Das Trio für Violine, Cello und Klavier Nr. 2 Missed Steps, das 2013 komponiert wurde, erzählt von seinem Wiedererlernen des Gehens und ist vom mystischen Weg der rotierenden Derwische inspiriert. Mit diesem Album, das den ersten fünfjährigen Todestag von Bosso markiert, schließt sich der Zyklus seiner Kompositionen, und das ganze Jahr wird voller Veranstaltungen sein, die ihm gewidmet sind.

Ezio Bosso
A conductor, a composer and a pianist when necessary, as he loves to describe himself, Ezio Bosso, has recently been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Teatro Comunale in Bologna.

Bosso was born in Turin into a working-class family but right from the very beginning, he expressed a strong desire to go beyond the national boundaries that has characterised his entire career. At the age of 16, he made his debut in France as a soloist, subsequently, he studied composition and conducting at the Vienna Academy and went on to collaborate with several European orchestras.

Eclecticism, versatility and generosity are the distinguishing features of his artistic career and the endless list of his collaborations with prestigious musical institutions and concert seasons in which he has performed as a composer or a performer, as a conductor or as a member of chamber music ensembles includes: the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Sydney Opera House, the Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Carnegie Hall in New York City, the Teatro Regio in Turin, the Houston Symphony, the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome, the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, the Festival of Perelada, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Lac Lugano and KKL in Lucerne.

He has received important acknowledgements, such come the Green Room Award in Australia (to date, he is the only non-Australian to have been awarded such prize) or the Syracuse New York Award in the USA, his music has been commissioned or used by the most important opera institutions worldwide such as the Wiener Staatsoper, the Royal Opera House, the New York City Ballet, the Théâtre du Châtelet, the San Francisco Ballet, the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow to mention only a few; by prestigious choreographers (Christopher Wheeldon, Edwaard Liang, Rafael Bonachela), for play scores in collaboration with famous theatre directors such as James Thierrée and with internationally-renowned film directors such as Gabriele Salvatores.

In London, where he has lived for some time now, he has been the long-term artistic director of The London Strings.

He can also boast important collaborations with great soloists, among which the relationship that binds him to the violinist Sergey Krylov is worthy of note, with whom in 2014 he made his debut with Fantasy for Violin and Orchestra at the head of the London Symphony Orchestra.

In 2015, The Arts Newspaper and Penelope Curtis, the director of the Tate Britain, have defined his concert at the Ikon Gallery – held inside the exhibition space containing the artwork entitled 3 Drawing Rooms by David Tremlett – the artistic event of the year in the United Kingdom. In the same year, he was chosen by the Alma Mater University in Bologna to write and conduct his Symphony No.4 dedicated to the Magna Charta of the European Universities and which contains the first official anthem of this primary global institution. Prior to the release of The 12th Room in 2015 (which has been re-recorded and released for Sony Classical in 2017), making his debut as a piano soloist, he recorded a considerable number of albums that bear witness to a broad panorama of his versatility and sophistication as a composer, performer and conductor.

In 2016 Sony Classical released the anthology “Ezio Bosso...and the things that remain (from 2004 to the present day)” in two CDs including a selection of tracks from all his albums and one DVD featuring eight new videos recorded in September 2016.

2016 was the year that saw Bosso’s consecration among the most successful active performers in Italy, having sold over 100,000 tickets, receiving critical acclaim and increasingly more enthusiasm also with regards to “cultured” programmes, especially conceived to engage the spectator in a cognitive and emotional journey through some of the greatest expressions of music. Chopin, Bach, Cage have been experienced by the public – and for many of the people present at these concerts, this was the first time they had listened to this type of music – with such spontaneity and showing great interest, enthralled by the captivating musical experience that is a blend of virtuosity together with poetic and ironic narrative that makes his performances stand out from the rest. Bosso has shown a particular calling to promoting the awareness of music that expresses the ethical and intellectual concerns of Bosso, the man, and which have characterised his friendship with one of the absolute Maestros of 20th century interpretation, Claudio Abbado, with whom he shared a relationship of profound mutual esteem and affection. The cultural and social commitment he has expressed through his activities carried out in favour of Palazzo Barolo, one of the greatest Baroque residences in Turin, has today been transformed into a lively centre for the dissemination of culture as well as the headquarters of the Opera Pia Giulia di Barolo that is extremely active throughout the territory to provide assistance for socially and physically disadvantaged individuals as well as through the Associazione Mozart14, one of the social legacies left by Maestro Abbado pursued with unique dedication by his daughter Alessandra.

In October 2016, after 6 years of absence from the podium, Ezio Bosso returned to one of the cornerstones of his musical vision, conducting, making a sensational and eagerly-awaited debut as a conductor on the podium of the Orchestra Filarmonica della Fenice in Venice, with the demanding programme consisting of the Brandenburg Concerto No. 3 by J.S.Bach, the “Italian” Symphony No.4 by Mendelssohn and the virtuosic yet beguiling Concerto for violin “Esoconcerto”, composed by Bosso featuring the funambulatory soloist Sergey Krylov. Following the success in Venice, recorded by Sony Classical for an upcoming album to be released on an international scale, Ezio Bosso was appointed Principal Guest Conductor at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna, where on 22nd December 2016, once again, he conducted an important sold out concert, preceded by days of rehearsals that were open to the public.

On 30th March 2017, Ezio Bosso performed at the universally-famous KKL in Lucerne which was completely sold out, receiving two standing ovations and more than 15 minutes’ applause.
