POING (Rolf-Erik Nystrøm, sax; Frode Haltli, acc, Håkon Thelin, double bass) is featured as soloists in Olav Anton Thommesen’s concerto grosso „Rapid Clouds“ on this recording with the Telemark Chamber Orchestra. The album also includes Antonio Bibalo’s „Concerto da Camera no 3“ for piano and chamber orchestra, with Ingrid Andsnes as soloist.

Rapid Clouds: A lyric Pastel for String Orchestra and improvizing soloists. In Norway, we are blessed with several serious-minded musicians who are well versed in the art of improvization. An improvization must always be elaborated on a pre-existing base. Without a base, we call it ‘intuitive’ music. Stockhausen’s Aus den Sieben Tage invite musicians to explore this territory.

But improvization is something different. There has to be a base. I decided to write one, an istrumental foundation upon which sensitive musicians could embellish and comment. I found such performers in the group POING.

Concerto da Camera No 3: “to the Telemark Chamber Orchestra and Prof. Stefano Sacher” Concerto da Camera No 3 was premiered at the Vestfold International Festival that same year by the Telemark Chamber Orchestra and the Norwegian Wind Ensemble.
