Chief conductor Mariss Jansons leads his Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra in an exemplary performance of Sibelius’ Second Symphony thanks to the extraordinary collaboration that has developed between conductor and orchestra.

Jansons’ enormous musical depth has the best possible partner in the amazing artistry of the Amsterdam top orchestra. Their performance of this magnificent symphony is marked by an unusually fine control of tension and release as well as musical refinement.

The recording has been taken from performances on 8 and 9 June, 20 August and 9 September 2005, during which capacity Amsterdam audiences reacted with great enthusiasm to this new reading of Sibelius’ Second Symphony.
