Info zu Some Change (Remastered)

Some Change was Boz Scaggs’ amazing debut for Virgin Records which would also begin a long-term hit making association with the label. It also was his return to the album charts with his first release since 1988’s Other Roads. This 1994 Boz Scaggs/Ricky Fataar (Beach Boys/Bonnie Raitt) produced gem was a hip revisit to the critically acclaimed southern blues affair sound of his first album Boz Scaggs (FRMLP9003). There was now a more organic roots sound, while still retaining all the polish and funk of a Silk Degrees (FRMLP3392), thanks to a solid round of album airplay at both rock, pop, and adult radio stations.

Leading off with the Texan style rocker You Got My Letter, a real crowd pleaser filled not only with his much welcomed back voice but also his legendary lead guitar work. This would be one of the definitive tunes that would surely reignite radio and retail’s appreciation of this superstar performer.

Boz Scaggs fans would hear this and more single and album tracks throughout the year, as this stellar album received generous airplay on all the popular rock and adult rock and pop formats. The blues belter title track Some Change was a very popular go to song for the adult alternative stations as was the follow up single Fly Like A Bird, a crowd pleaser filled with all the New Orleans/Mississippi blues imagery you could imagine, showcasing Scaggs’ soulful voice and a zydeco accordion paired into a wonderful tune for the fans.

Not a stranger to soul and ballad idioms, the sounds and elements he used on albums like the multi-platinum smash Silk Degrees, the Some Change album goes on to capture all of these ingredients with artistic ventures like the uptown groover Call Me as well as his stunning ballads Sierra and Lost It. Both of these magical tracks signify the way he can write a song, giving it an unequaled style and performance, while also creating five minute masterpieces with a sense of second nature delivery.

"When Boz Scaggs signed with Virgin Records after spending at least 17 years with Columbia, listeners had no idea what to expect. Some Change proved to be a pleasant surprise. Instead of going out of his way to be as slick and commercial as possible or offering something contrived and robotic, the singer-turned-restaurant-owner let his better instincts win out and delivered a very honest and natural-sounding collection of pop, pop/rock, and soul-influenced pop. On songs ranging from the smooth "I'll Be the One" (which has a slightly Average White Band-ish appeal) and the haunting "Sierra" to the ominous "Follow That Man," there's no question that Scaggs is coming from the heart. Arguably, Some Change is his best album since 1976's Silk Degrees." (Alex Henderson, AMG)
