Info zu The Komitas Legacy: Armenian Piano Trios
Soghomon Soghomonian (18691935) took the name Komitas (or Gomidas) when he was ordained a priest in 1894; a year later he became Komitas Vardapet (doctor of theology) one of the two names by which he is known to history. The other is father of Armenian music, since he collected thousands of songs from his compatriots, his fieldwork preserving and identifying the accent which makes the works of Armenian composers readily identifiable as these piano trios prove: one twentieth-century classic and three new works, one of which completes the circle by recasting six of Komitas own folksong arrangements.
Trio Aeternus:

Varoujan Bartikian, cello

Trio Aeternus
Three classical musicians; an English violinist, a Polish pianist and an Armenian cellist recently decided to form a Piano Trio. All three are great friends and at one time or another had performed with each other but never as a Piano Trio. A unified desire to explore this vast and magnificent repertoire finally bore fruition and in 2013 Trio Aeternus was formed.
Alexander Stewart a Graduate of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama is the Concert-Master of the “ Orquestra Sinfónica Portuguesa” in Lisbon. The Armenian Cellist Varoujan Bartikian has been performing the cello as a soloist since the age of 10 and joined the Gulbenkian Foundation Orchestra in 1989 where he is now Principal cello. Pianist Lucjan Luc who studied at the Katowice Music Academy in Poland with the internationally acclaimed Piano Professor Andrzej Jasínski as well as the outstanding composer and pianist Eugeniusz Knapik, also lived many years in Portugal and has since performed as a soloist and chamber-musician all over Europe At present Lucjan Luc is based in Spain. Both Alexander Stewart and Lucjan Luc first met in Poland in 1986 where both were studying in Katowice later they performed many times together in England Spain and Portugal where they met and became. great friends with Varoujan Bartikian. True friendship is eternal as is great music thus the choice of the name “ Aeternus”.
