Info zu Reverie

Reverie is the sequel to the album Nocturnal by Qope (Bart Koop). It was recorded in the same place and follows the track of ‘Nocturnal’ – meditative and often cyclical musical expressions, with a spontaneous character. Qope plays a Steinway Model D-274 Concert Grand Piano on Reverie.

Qope is extremely critical of the adjustment of the grand piano and makes ample use of sustain, using space as a second instrument. Rarely have you heard the piano sound fade away so beautifully, for which of course the high-end recording by TRPTK engineer Brendon Heinst also guarantees. A symbiosis that leads to an irresistible musical result.

Qope says “Looking at this recording, I marvel – the mind is such a wonderful thing. It gives us the power of creation and imagination, giving birth to things never seen or heard before. Often I find myself drowning in daydreams, improvising on my piano, and imagining spectacular visuals. Sometimes they come and go, to never return. Lost in eternity. I tried to capture some of these reveries during this recording, like a modern dream catcher. It is up to you to imagine and join me in these journeys on the piano.”

Qope (aka Bart Koop), piano

QOPE
is pianist Bart Koop. Born 1984 in Almelo, in to a musical family, music has been a daily influence since his childhood. He started playing piano at the age of 7. At that age he wanted to play keyboard but his parents convinced him to start classically training the piano instead, giving him a much better musical base. He keeps on playing the piano ever since.

In 1998 he started experimenting with samples, synthesizers, composing and improvisations until 2003. Since 2007 he has been playing in bands, playing synths, piano and electric piano. Over the years the main focus kept on being the piano.

After recording the Paper Motion debut album in 2016 he was asked to work on his first solo work. This resulted in his first solo album Nocturnal. Recorded and improvised live it is the first album to be released under the TRPTK Live label.

Bart takes his inspiration from the likes of Max Richter, Jóhann Jóhannsson, Bill Evans to name a few.
