Info zu The Other Side Of The Coin

The Other Side Of The Coin by Ruben Bertrands is a heartfelt exploration of life, where each track serves as a window into the myriad experiences that shape our existence. This album weaves together folksy melodies and soulful rhythms, creating a rich musical landscape that resonates with listeners on both an emotional and spiritual level. The title itself suggests a journey through contrasting perspectives, inviting us to reflect on the complexities of love, loss, joy, and sorrow.

Drawing inspiration from traditional folk music while infusing elements of soul, the track “Goin’ Down Slow,” “Cafe De Levante,” and “Belle Of The Bog” capture the essence of storytelling through song. The songs embody a delightful fusion of blues and folk elements, characterized by its infectious rhythm that invites listeners to tap their feet and sway along. The blend of these genres creates a rich image of sound that is both nostalgic and invigorating. The rhythmic foundation is laid down by a steady beat that complements the soulful melodies, making it an ideal track for both casual listening and lively gatherings. One of the standout features of this track is its exceptional piano and harmonica solos which are crafted with intricate runs and expressive chords that elevate the overall musical experience.

Big Wave” and “Second Line Fever” are two of my personal favorites because the fun rhythm of the songs are infectious. It encourages movement and engagement from listeners. Whether it’s through clapping hands or tapping feet, these tracks have an undeniable groove that makes it hard to resist joining in. The tempo strikes a perfect balance—not too fast to lose its folksy charm, but lively enough to keep spirits high. This musical quality is essential in blues music, where dancing often plays a crucial role in connecting with audiences.

At the heart of this album is the powerful rock and roll voice that delivers each lyric with passion and authenticity. It possesses a gravelly timbre that resonates deeply, evoking emotions ranging from joy to melancholy. This vocal richness adds layers to the storytelling aspect of the song, drawing listeners into its narrative. The dynamic range showcased throughout the performance—from soft verses to soaring choruses—demonstrates the artist’s versatility and command over their craft.

In conclusion, this album stands out due to its compelling combination of rich rock vocals, engaging rhythms, and stellar instrumental solos. It captures the essence of traditional blues and folk, while infusing it with modernity that appeals to a wide audience. Whether you are a long-time fan of these genres or new to them, The Other Side Of The Coin promises an enjoyable listening experience filled with warmth, energy, and emotional depth. Ruben Bertrands

Ruben Bertrands
started playing harmonica on the streets of Brussels when he was 21 years old. A decade later he has played his honky tonk music all over the world: from the beaches of Spain, to the French Quarter of New Orleans.

His music career started at Belgium's oldest independent radio station (Radio Scorpio), where he hosted an acclaimed weekly show called 'Bluesapalooza'. After a couple of years, the show culminated in the first Leuven Blues festival, which featured over 50 local and international musicians.

During the next couple of years, Ruben founded a non-profit under the moniker 'Leuven Live' and organized over 200 concerts and jam sessions. In 2019 RB hit the road and lived in Morocco and Italy, eventually settling down in Gran Canaria.

When the pandemic shook the world, RB stayed on the Canary Islands, busking beneath the Catedral de Santa Ana, right next to Columbus' House. During this time, he released two albums: 'After Hours' and 'Blues Messenger'.

In 2022 he got selected through ReverbNation for the Richmond International Film Festival, winning the Grand Jury Prize for Best Music. He also made it to the finals of Unsigned Only with his original song 'White Man Boogie'.

After a succesful Kickstarter campaign, he recorded his third album 'The Other Side Of The Coin' with Dirk Lekenne at Studio Fandango. In February 2023 he traveled to the USA to work on the record with NYC Blues Hall Of Famer Hugh Pool.

After two weeks in the Big Apple, RB traveled to New Orleans to experience his first Mardi Gras. He busked on Royal Street, went to local jam sessions and performed at the Baton Rouge Mardi Gras Festival. During this time, he was a steady fixture at Henry Turner Jr.'s Listening Room.

In 2024, RB was scouted by Spectra Music Group, and subsequently signed a record deal. 'The Other Side Of The Coin' will be released worldwide in September 2024.
