Alberto Nones
pianist and philosopher/music historian, is Professor of Piano at the "E.R.Duni" Conservatory of Music in Matera, where he also teaches courses of History and Historiography of Music.
He graduated summa cum laude in Piano from the "F.A. Bonporti" Conservatory of Music in Trento, where he studied with Antonella Costa, and specialized in Masterclasses and Academies with Masters like Paul Badura-Skoda and Franco Scala. He has won several piano competitions, but above all he has enriched his education in the humanities with a degree in Philosophy magna cum laude from the University of Bologna, an M.Sc. in Political Theory from the London School of Economics, and a Ph.D. in International Studies from the University of Trento.
This background and approach has brought him to give concerts and talks in Italy, Germany, Austria, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Latvia, Estonia, Switzerland, the UK, the USA, Russia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Armenia, Nigeria, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait.
His recordings, realized as soloist and with renowned artists, have been presented by RaiRadio3, Radio Vaticana, Radio Classica and Cemat. In particular, his recording of the Complete Mazurkas by Chopin has been acclaimed by some of Italy's most prominent music critics. It has now been acquired by Convivium Records, which is about to release his new Chopin album. Other recordings featuring Alberto Nones include the Sonatas for Piano and Violin by Johannes Brahms (with noted violinist Franco Mezzena), a live recital with music of Chopin, Brahms, Liszt and Scriabin (Tau Records) and Art songs by Pietro Cimara (with Nunzia Santodirocco for Da Vinci Classics).
Nones's musicological publications include four monographs and three edited volumes (one of which coedited with Lawrence Kramer, whereas a fourth one is in the making) that focus on the multifaceted relations between music, politics, performance and communication, as well as articles, translations, encyclopedia entries.
Nones has worked for many years abroad: Marie Curie Researcher at the University of Cambridge; Fulbright Visiting Researcher at Princeton University and Postdoctoral Fellow again at Princeton, where he is life member of the James Madison Society; Post-Doc at the University of Lugano in Switzerland and at the University of Trento. Nones has more than twenty years of multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary teaching experience at a number of schools and universities, among which are the University of Lugano, the University of Trento, the Free University of Bolzano/Bozen, the United Arab Emirates University, and the "G.Puccini" Conservatory of Music in Gallarate, where he has taught History and Aesthetics of Music.
His interest in music goes beyond genres and he is a registered SIAE author and composer. A RAI (Trento) broadcaster on an occasional basis since 2011, Nones is also the founder and president of the European Association of Music and Communication (AEMC). He has recently been appointed Honorary Visiting Teacher of Piano at the Edward Said National Conservatory of Music - Birzeit University, in Palestine.
