"The instrumentation for violin, cello and piano is not easy to realize, at least not with today’s instruments, since the piano very easily becomes dominant. Robin Holloway approaches this in two ways. In the Trio, he often allows solos or duets to be played. In Moments of Vision, on words by Virginia Woolf from her sketches Moments of Being, he added a speaker and a percussionist.

Peter Seabourne has a much more classical approach. He takes it as an almost symphonic entity in near-classical four-movement form with a scherzo in the second place.

While the Seabourne Trio can thus be heard more or less in the usual way, the Holloway piece disintegrates into a patchwork of individual elements that exist side by side. It is then like a family. Whether all the members get along with each other or want to belong together is not necessarily immediately. In the case of the titular Moments of Vision, the expansion, especially through the speaker, leads to a completely different experience.

The performances are well shaped, finely balanced and lively. The Avant Trio is used to dealing with modern pieces, so that the music is easy to handle for them. With two Italian artists, violinist and pianist, they present interpretations that are as well formulated as they are life-affirming. Benjamin Harris, himself a composer mainly of works that involve words, gives the text a life of its own even though remaining close to the music, making Moments of Vision attention-grabbing and thought-provoking." Avant Piano Trio
Described by Jacqueline Ross (Guildhall School of Music and Drama) as an ensemble characterised by its intensely expressive and passionate music making, the Avant Piano Trio is particularly focussed on the philological and authentic performance of works from the 18th to the 20th centuries, and on discovering and commissioning living composers. Founded in 2017, the trio has performed for Comporre Oggi and at I Giardini Filarmonica Romana. It was selected for the Trondheim Chamber Music Academy and toured India for masterclasses and concerts. It has participated in many other festivals and concert series in the UK and in Italy.
