Info for Fragrant World

Yeasayer's third album, Fragrant World, is a hulking beast of a record. Keyboards clank and wheeze, tiny claps stumble against busted drum machines, and there's very little obvious guitar. It's an album that grapples with the schizophrenia of the modern world by gathering piles of electronics and molding them into something huge and often gorgeous.

Chris Keating, vocals
Anand Wilder, guitar
Ira Wolf Tuton, bass
Ahmed Gallab, drums, percussion

Yeasayer
first came to the wider world’s attention after they performed at the South By Southwest Festival in Austin, Texas in 2007. The band have had various lineup changes, but the current members are Chris Keating, Ira Wolf Tuton, Anand Wilder, Ahmed Gallag and Jason Trammell. They are based in Brooklyn, New York.

They released their first single, a double A-side Of Sunrise and 2080, releasing their debut album, All Hour Cymbals, the same year. The band describe their music as “Middle Eastern-psych-snap—gospel”.

In 2008, they supported Beck, as well as touring with MGMT and Man Man. That same year they performed a public acappella show in Paris. Acappella is an Italian word meaning “in the manner of the church”, and involves a vocal performance without the aid of instruments. The guys performed Take Away Show on the Paris Metro.

The band have also performed at Lollapalooza, currently held in Chicago, Illinois, a festival that has progressed the careers of bands such as The Smashing Pumpkins, Depeche Mode and Red Hot Chilli Peppers. They have also performed at the Pitchfork Music Festival and the Austin City Limits Festival in the US, before flying over to the UK to play at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Yeasayer tickets and concerts are gaining popularity, with glowing reviews from popular rock mags like NME and Q giving them a push.

In 2010, Yeasayer have already performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, a three day annual event held in Indio, California, and at the Pinkpop Festival, held at Landgraaf in the Netherlands. The band are booked to perform at a music festival in Australia in August. The band are renowned for the inclusion of psychedelic visuals throughout their live performances - very retro, and fans queue up for Yeasayer tickets to experience them live.

Earlier this year, supported by Secretly Canadian and the Mute Records label, Yeasayer released their second studio album, Odd Blood. The album contains more of a pop music influence than any of their previous productions.

As well as releasing two albums, Yeasayer have released four singles: Sunrise/2080 and Wait For The Summer, both in 2007, Ambling Alp in 2009, and O.N.E. in 2010. They also released a compilation, Dark Was The Night, in 2009.

This album contains no booklet.
