David Lampel
Swedish composer born in 1959 in Stockholm, Sweden.

A pianist trained at the Geneva Music Conservatory, David Lampel completed his course at the École Normale de Musique in Paris in the classes for fugue, counterpoint, harmony and composition.

Lampel has written for the stage, cinema, television and the concert. Inspired notably by Bach, Schönberg and Bartok, he composes mainly chamber music by focussing on the development of the melodic and motivic parameters. His works include String Sextet, first performed by the Uppsala Chamber Soloists (2002); Sonata for trumpet and piano, first performed by Romain Leleu and Matthias Lecomte at the festival The Sounds of a Summer Night in Sweden (2010); Partita for cello and piano, first performed at the competition VioloncellenSeine in Paris (2016); Danse macabre for string quartet, first performed by the Debussy Quartet in Skebobruk, Sweden (2017); Quintet for piano and strings, first performed by the Manfred Quartet and Florent Boffard in Skebobruk, Sweden (2018); Concerto for cello and orchestra, first performed by Emmanuelle Bertrand and the Orchestre Symphonique de Mulhouse conducted by Jacques Lacombe at La Filature in Mulhouse (2019).

Being involved in contemporary creation, in 2002 Lampel founded the festival of Franco-Swedish music The Sounds of a Summer Night/Sommarnattens toner, of which he has since been the artistic director.

Also a pedagogue, Lampel teaches harmony and counterpoint and orchestration in various conservatories of Paris as well as at the École Nationale de Musique in Évry. In 2010 he took part in the Grand Prix Lycéen for composers with his disc Chamber music, released by Naxos. He is also the author of a Manuel pratique d’harmonie (2001) and of Les instruments et l’orchestre, la musique instrumentale à travers les siècles (2017).
