Info for Tomono Kawamura: Reminiscence
In her new album, acclaimed pianist Tomono Kawamura takes listeners on a journey through the world of classical piano music. Tomono's deep connection to the piano is evident in every piece, mixing personal favourites with timeless masterpieces. The album explores different stylistic periods with selections by Scarlatti, Rachmaninoff, Debussy and Grieg. A highlight of ‘Reminiscence’ is Tomono's original composition ‘Variations’, which bridges the gap between classical form and contemporary expression. Tomono Kawamura was born in Japan, began playing the piano at the age of three and made her orchestral debut at the age of fifteen. After winning numerous competitions in Japan, she was awarded a scholarship to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where she graduated with honours. Tomono has performed as a soloist throughout Asia, Europe and the UK.

Born in Japan, at the age of three Tomono started her piano studies at the Yamaha Music School. She made her orchestral debut as a soloist at fifteen.While she was in Japan, Tomono won a number of competitions including the first prize at the Japan Piano Education League Audition and the PTNA Piano Competition. Consequently, she was invited to perform at gala concerts in major Tokyo venues such as the Casals Hall and Orchard Hall. She had also taken composition lessons since the age of seven and performed her own compositions throughout Japan, she was also invited to perform at a concert tour in Israel.Many of her performances were broadcast on television.
Later, Tomono was awarded a scholarship by the Yamaha Music Foundation to study at the Royal Academy of Music in London where she studied with Christopher Elton and the late Maria Curcio, one of the most distinguished pupils of Artur Schnabel. Tomono also performed several times with orchestras including Mozart Concerto K505 directed by today’s one of the most celebrated artists, Trevor Pinnock who selected her to be the soloist. After winning several prizes including the Douglas Cameron Prize, Greta G. M. Parkinson Prize, Leslie England Award, Andrew Sykes Award and Kenneth Sidney Brindle Award and number of different scholarships, she gained a BMus degree with First Class Honours.
Tomono has appeared as a soloist throughout Asia, Europe and the UK in such venues as the Snape Maltings, Aldeburgh, St. Martin in the Fields and the Wigmore Hall, London. Her recent performances include Beethoven’s 4th piano concerto, Mozart Piano Concerto K491 in Draper’s Hall, London as well as other successful engagements around the world.
