Info for Bruckner: Symphony No. 9 (Original Version)
Bruckner's Symphony No. 9 marks the end of the Bruckner trilogy, which has earned Paavo Järvi and the orchestra much praise: Symphony No. 7 was honoured with the Diapason d'Or in April 2023, while No. 8 received the coveted International Classical Music Award for the best symphonic recording of 2024.
The recording of the Ninth was made at the opening of last season; the NZZ wrote afterwards that the work sounded "jagged, visionary, fatalistic" in this performance. However, Paavo Järvi is of the opinion that the unfinished work is perfect after all: "The three existing movements have so much power, expression and substance that there is nothing to add."
