Info for Whispers
At the intersection of classical music and jazz, the French composer and pianist Jean-Christophe Cholet is a master in making small intense parts, without artifice. Whispers on it revives Matthieu Michel, his partner of 20 years, to put together the foundations of a hushed but profound dialogue as a long continuous breath.
Recorded at La Buissonne, this new album puts essentiality search light of the duo immersed in an atmosphere of rare serenity. Guided by the producer Gerard de Haro, Jean-Christophe Cholet and Matthieu Michel Whispers draped in a deep black silk greenery which blends light exchanges and dramatic dives, taking care to rule out demonstrative virtuosity. The complementary duo shows evidence of collaboration, able to dress the space with little notes, without ever giving way to a feeling of emptiness.
Invited to share this unique moment, Ramon Lopez (drums) and Didier Ithursarry (accordion) complement the compositions of the duo without disfiguring. The original breath two a new dimension to three or four. An ease in the interaction between the musicians that proves how this Whispers has been designed in the best way: a search count and simplicity, opening the way to the fluid expression of deeply personal songs and live.

Jean-Christophe Cholet
born in 1962, is one of the most unusual French personalities in the field of improvised music. Qualified at the Schola Cantorum in 1985 in piano, harmony, descant and fugue. Besides his solid classical training he also practices jazz and has been composing from a very young age.
Having trained with Kenny Barron, Richie Beirach, Bernard Maury, Bill Dobbins and even Lee Konitz, he takes part in projects with jazz greats Charlie Mariano, Matthias Rüegg, Michel Portal, Louis Sclavis, Paolo Fresu, Rick Margitza, Marc Ducret, Jon Sass, Wolfgang Pushnig and others.
As a soloist in Switzerland he has participated in the symphonic projects of Mathias Rüegg with Claudio Pontiggia, horn, Matthieu Michel, trumpet player, as well as the Cholet-Känzig-Papaux Trio.
His research on European cultures as well as the many concerts he gives in Germany, Austria and Italy make him an absolutely European musician in both his creative spirit and as an artist sensitive to the virtue of human and cultural exchanges.
This musician, who is a personality rich in projects, beyond his ability to offer a clean aesthetic line, seduces with his eclecticism: he composes for symphonic music, dance, circus, theater, corporate film,... With a repertoire of about 230 works, he maintains a sustained pace of writing: Alla brève (Radio France), brass quintet "Turbulences",Tuba quartet "Euphonic Tuba’s” Quartet, instrumental ensemble "A Piacere", Orchestre Symphonique Région Centre / Tours (Region Centre of France Symphony Orchestra – Tours), Orchestre d'Harmonie de la Région Centre (Symphony Orchestra of the region Centre)...
Anxious to share the music he likes with a great number of people, owner of CA du Jazz (certificate for teaching Jazz), he is also a valuable teacher to amateur musicians both in explaining his music and in introducing them to improvisation
