Info for Mussorgsky: Dawn on the Moskva River & Pictures at an Exhibition
The curtain rises to Moscow's scenery on the Moskva River at dawn at the end of the 17th century, at the time of Peter the Great. Since Mussorgsky only left clues about the cast of his opera 'Khovanshchina,' after his death, his friend Rimsky-Korsakov decided to orchestrate them in his way. His orchestration, with its light woodwinds and light bass, its bell effects in the horns, is a beautiful example of romantic tone painting. Rimsky managed thus to save the opera from oblivion.
The piano suite 'Pictures at an Exhibition,' arranged for orchestra by Maurice Ravel, has achieved world fame since 1922.
According to our reputed sound engineers, an excellent recording's success depends mostly on the acoustic of the venue, where it was performed.
On this album, one can listen to the phenomenal sound of two of the most magnificent European concert halls, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam and the Laeiszhalle Hamburg.
Both venues inspired the Cologne New Philharmonic and his eminent conductor Volker Hartung to give their best to the music of Russian impressionist composer Modest Musorgsky.
Recorded in 24bit HD Audio, this album will bring much joy to the listener.
