Info for Dances of Light
Russian romantic composers in a new interpretation: this is the task Tatjana Masurenko and the folk-instrument ensemble Yaruss Quartett have dedicated themselves to. With viola, soprano domra and alto domra (Russian mandolins), accordion and double bass, they play well-known Russian works of the 19th century in their own arrangements. Compositions by Rimsky-Korsakoff, Mussorgsky, Borodin and Glasunov get a new sound, it becomes lighter, more open, more flexible and the music gets more elegance, colours and a lively character. The secret: gut strings for all instruments according to historically informed 19th century performance practice; for example, the domras sound like Italian historical mandolins. Coupled with great musicality and joy of playing, the excellent interpretations become an unusual musical experience.
