Tenor saxophonist Karl Seglem has, along with the trio Eple, created an album that stands in striking contrast with his previous releases. At the same time it gives clear evidence of his development as a musician, composer and poet. Norskjazz.no is a poetic, lovely, melodious and melancholy album recording with a traditional jazz quartet. It is a journey through a landscape which bears witness to Seglem¿s efforts to use folk music as a basis for his compositions and improvisations, with regard to both sonority and melody.

Seglem himself says that he wanted to make ¿a lovely, poetic and clean-cut jazz album¿. For a long time he had dreamed of composing music for a classic jazz quartet, and recording it. Now this dream has become a reality. In its use of melodies, arrangements and improvisation the quartet has obviously focused closely on teamwork. It is difficult to write about the group¿s music without using adjectives such as contemplative and serene. Although it has a melancholy quality about it, the listener is not left in a sad mood. The recording was done live in the studio, and the sound of Seglem¿s tenor saxophone is spellbinding. His intense interplay with the critically acclaimed Eple Trio enables him to reveal new sides of his compositional techniques and tonal art. The recording also includes a traditional Norwegian folk song and a Portuguese fado. Norskjazz.no is licensed to Ozella Music in Germany, and will be launched internationally July 3. 2009. This album marks a significant milestone for Seglem: his 25th CD release. He is still finding his way into new musical landscapes.
