Info for Das Erste Mal (2025 Remaster)

Exactly 50 years ago, with the release of his debut album "Das erste Mal," Marius Müller-Westernhagen launched an unprecedented career that today makes him one of the most successful artists in this country.

This long-out-of-print CD edition has been remastered and, since spring 2025, offers the opportunity to experience songs like "Wir waren noch Kinder" (We Were Still Children) and "Taximann" (Taxi Man) in all their glory again. A must-have for every collection!

"Das erste Mal" (The First Time) is a kind of naive painting with words that already contains the germ of what defines the later "Theo." But while later he portrays figures from the demimonde and the red-light district with incredible authenticity, in 1974 Marius Müller-Westernhagen is still more in the real world. Naively sympathetic songs deal with father, mother, or his own fear of flying. The music still partly hovers on the edge of pop or songwriting genres." (Norbert von Fransecky, musikansich.de)

The fact that you don't get bogged down is due not least to the fact that Westernhagen essentially appears here as the singer of the hard rock band Lucifer's Friend, which acts as his backing band. Half of the songs were written by their Peter Hesslein, who also produced the album. Already on his debut, Westernhagen demonstrates his absolute skill in combining the German language with (rock) music. "Marion aus Pinneberg" and the fear-of-flying anthem "Fasten Seat Belt" are absolute hits – especially in terms of music and arrangement.
