Info for Edward Elgar - Symphony No. 1 & Cockaigne Overture

Alexander Soddy, GMD of the National Theatre Orchestra from 2016 to 2023, and the NTO dedicate themselves to two selected compositions by the British master: the Symphony No. 1 and the Cockaigne Overture, recorded at the Academy Concerts.

With the overture "Cockaigne (In London Town)", Edwar Elgar portrays the city at the turn of the century as a pulsating world metropolis. Cheerful and colourful, he takes listeners on a stroll through the hustle and bustle. Premiered in Manchester in 1908, Symphony No. 1 is the first of two symphonies by Edward Elgar. It quickly found its way into the concert repertoire. Here Alexander Soddy and the Mannheim National Theatre Orchestra present the second album in cooperation with the Musikalische Akademie Mannheim.
