Info for Imago
The engaging pianist Moira Lo Bianco spins characterful musical tapestries that weave together popular and arcane, East and West, notation and improvisation, making the ancient modern and the modern timeless.
„Imago“ – the Latin word for image or portrait – describes the imaginative, musical world presented by Italian pianist and composer Moira Lo Bianco in her solo album.
"Moira Lo Bianco has used her impressive classical training as a vehicle for building a new kind of musical expression - she is a "piano explorer", an inventor and a joyful and exciting improviser." (Stephany Tiernan, Berklee College Piano Department Chair)
Moira Lo Bianco, piano
Moira Lo Bianco
studied classical piano performance at F. Torrefranca Conservatory in Vibo Valentia, Italy and completed her Bachelor of Arts with an ethnomusicology thesis on Calabrian folk music and its traditions. She undertook graduate studies at The University of Tor Vergata and, under the tutelage of Oscar award-winning composer Luis Bacalov, studied film scoring at Siena's Accademia Chigiana. Looking to develop her ability as a pianist, composer and arranger, Moira received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA and graduated with Summa Cum Laude honors in 2012.
Recently, Moira has enjoyed collaborations with Simon Shaheen, Kinan Azmeh, Marco Pignataro, Arooj Aftab and, in partnership with M. Steinert & Sons; New England’s Steinway dealer, started a workshop series called Improvisation for Classical Pianists. The series combines her vision to bring classical music to unconventional venues and help the next generation of listeners understand and appreciate its influence on the music that came afterward. Her music presents listeners with a breadth of musical concepts, artistic vision and world philosophies.
