Info for Bach: The Well-Tempered Clavier, Book II

Surely only a pianist who has penetrated to the depths of Johann Sebastian Bach's Well-Tempered Clavier for decades, artistically and pedagogically, can afford to offer this milestone of piano literature on her debut CD. Gerlinde Otto – Professor at the Academy of Music in Weimar – is this artist, presenting the second volume of Bach's monumental cycle as her first production on GENUIN. She plays vibrantly and with a big sound; her Bach sings and goes directly to the heart. She offers the listener a whole that is more than the sum of its parts and, at the same time, a chain of jewels: as Philipp Spitta has already written, a series of 'organisms at rest within themselves'.

Gerlinde Otto, piano

Gerlinde Otto
was born in Halle/Saale and received her first musical instruction at the age of five. She later studied with Dr. Rudolf Neumann at the Spezialschule für Musik Halle/Leipzig before continuing her studies at the Leipzig (Prof. Heinz Volger), Warsaw (Prof. Lidia Kozubek) and Weimar (Prof. Rolf-Dieter Arens) conservatories. Concert tours led her to Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, France, Finland, Austria, Switzerland, Ukraine, Canada, South Korea and China. Radio and television productions round out her artistic activities. In addition to her work as a soloist, Gerlinde Otto is a versatile chamber musician and lied accompanist.

Since 1992, she has held a professorship in piano at the FRANZ LISZT School of Music Weimar. She is also a frequent jury member at national and international music competitions.
