Info for Cosmos

Lorenz Kellhuber is just 22 years old and is considered as an absolute insider's tip within the jazz scene. The clear tone and the creativity of his piano playing make him one of the most demanded newcomer musicians in Germany. Recorded at the legendary Berlin jazz club A-Trane.

“An incredibly mature and impressive artistic personality at a very young age.” (Ed Partyka)

Lorenz Kellhuber, Arne Huber, Gabriel Hahn,

Lorenz Kellhuber Trio
The Lorenz Kellhuber trio: a name that stands for a different sound. Aesthetic, spontaneity, creativity are the distinctive attributes that set apart this group of musicians, brought together in 2011 by pianist par excellence Lorenz Kellhuber, including Arne Huber on bass and Gabriel Hahn on drums. In a poised and adventurous way the trio explores and brings to life mainly Lorenz’s own compositions, proving Arne Huber und Gabriel Hahn to be congenial companions. In March 2012 the trio presented its very first CD, people and their oppositions, on the Konnex Records label. As Prof. Edward Partyka, an American jazz musician, arranger and conductor puts it in the accompanying liner notes: ‘‘In addition to his skills as an improviser, Lorenz presents himself here as a mature and thoughtful composer. All of the pieces on this recording except the opener, Cole Porter’s Everything I Love, were composed by Lorenz and many have the timeless quality of some of the great standards composed by the masters of the Genre.’’ As of August 2012, Lorenz is a recording artist with the Blackbird Music label, which early 2013 will put out the second album of the trio, recorded live at the A-Trane, a Berlin jazz club.

Born in Munich in1990, Lorenz Kellhuber is regarded as one of the most talented young musicians in Germany (Mittelbayerische Zeitung). At the age of five he already played the piano, and until the age of 16 enjoyed a classical education, a.o. with Prof. Franz Massinger in Munich. Following this he teaches himself to play jazz, whilst in 2004 Rob Bargad (Nat Adderley Quintet) introduces him to jazz piano. In 2006 Lorenz, only 16 years old at the time, becomes a student with the Jazz Institute in Berlin. He studies with Hubert Nuss, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Greg Cohen and John Hollenbeck, and obtains a bachelor’s degree. His frequent concert tours take Lorenz to many different European countries. On numerous stages he performs with Adrian Mears, Rocky Knauer, Ignaz Dinne, Henning Sieverts, Ed Partyka, Al Porcino, Marc Muellbauer and Mario Gonzi. With bass player Arne Huber Lorenz is able to win over one of the most requested sidemen in Germany. Arne has already performed on over 10 CDs, and played with musicians such as Terrell Stafford, Ack van Rooyen, Johannes Enders and Tony Lakatos. Arne is definitely no longer considered a stranger in jazz circles. Ever since he played in the band behind the legendary New York Voices, the same goes for the drummer of the trio, Gabriel Hahn. Apart from being a jazz drummer, Gabriel is also involved in several art and performance projects (Fuchs+Hahn, Atonor). He also conducts rhythm and body percussion workshops all over Europe. As a drummer, composer and performer he works and plays with numerous jazz-, new music and world music groups.
