Info for The Dawning

‘The Dawning’ is the successor to ‘The Call’, which appeared in 2022, but that does not mean Steven Troch has been idle in the meantime. In 2024, the Mechelen-based harmonica virtuoso released the strong ‘Bad Love’ with blues guitarist Bart Jult - as The Odd Cases - as well as being featured on ‘Way Up!’ by ex-Fried Bourbon comrade Shakedown Tim and his Rhythm Revue.

Last year, Troch turned 50. And he and his Steven Troch Band celebrated it then with a concert in hometown Mechelen. As a memento of that night, ‘Live@Mind Your Head’ was released in the autumn, an EP with eight songs played at Theatre Arsenal. Those who paid close attention at the time could already hear the new single that night, but The Mountain was one of the six songs that didn't end up on the EP in the end. Now we immediately know why.

The bluesy guitar riffs of Matti De Rijcke, the irresistible reggae beat of rhythm section Liesbeth Sprangers (on bass) and Dennis de Gier (drums) and of course the recognisable harmonica and voice of Troch himself, in The Mountain all those typical Steven Troch Band ingredients are mixed together and brought to the boil, resulting in an intriguing, yet irresistible track, which is very much enjoyed here.

So we are already counting down to the release, but also looking forward to some shows that the Steven Troch Band has scheduled for this spring.

Steven Troch, vocals, harmonicas
Liesbeth Sprangers, bass, backing vocals
Matti De Rijcke, guitars
Dennis de Gier, drums, percussion
