Info for French Guitar

With his relaxed approach to playing, eloquent Travis picking technique and a highly developed sense of melody, François Sciortino presents his instrumentals in anecdotic manner, with admirable effortlessness and self-confident elegance. 'If you love the music and the guitar, then you are no longer tied to barriers,' says Sciortino fully aware of the fact that 'French Guitar' is an outstanding piece of work without any genre limits. An album full of exuberant joy, Gallic nonchalance and top-notch musicality, which invites the listener to just enjoy, marvel at or praise.

'Musical patchwork art' of the highest order is what AKUSTIK GITARRE writer Franz Holtmann called the work of François Sciortino. This French fingerstylist studied at the Paris Conservatory, where he discovered his love for South American music and made up his mind to develop his own perfectly individual fingerpicking style, in order to write his own pieces in addition to teach. François Sciortino has already demonstrated the broad origins of his influences, which range from the French master of the guitar Marcel Dadi, to traditional Italian songs, all the way to American roots music. On his first album for Acoustic Music, this skilled Frenchman reveals the entire stylistic bandwidth of his guitar-playing art: The entertainment focus of 'Chicken Blues', 'Flower Waltz', 'Celtic Way', and 'Gypsy Rag' is already extant in the songs' titles – and yet all the pieces sound unmistakably – in the best sense of the term – like François Sciortino thanks to his highly entertaining performance culture.
