Info for Eastbound: Schumann, Dvorak, Schreker (Works for String Orchestra)

The Swiss chamber orchestra Festival Strings Lucerne recently attracted attention with its recording of Mozart's "Haffner Serenade" and the highly acclaimed album "Femmes" by cellist Raphaela Gromes. For their new album "Eastbound", Festival Strings Lucerne has selected a particularly interesting programme under the direction of concertmaster Daniel Dodds.

These are rarities from the Romantic repertoire in special arrangements for string orchestra: Robert Schumann's work "Pictures from the East", originally composed for piano four hands and only rediscovered by Festival Strings Lucerne a few years ago, can be heard on the album in a splendid symphonic version arranged by Mendelssohn pupil Friedrich Hermann.

Another piece by Schumann is the calm and dreamlike "Abendlied" in an arrangement by Johan Svendsen. And there is even a world premiere recording on the album: Antonin Dvorak's touching "Andante" from his String Quartet op. 9, arranged by Martin Braun, from 2020. The famous "Serenade for String Orchestra" by Dvorak, which is a classic of the Romantic string ensemble repertoire, is heard on the album in an excellent interpretation. Another rarity is the lively "Scherzo" by Austrian composer Franz Schreker, which is almost reminiscent of Dvorak with its lively melody.
