Info for Es leuchten die Sterne

"Art, like music, is about enchantment. And looking at the stars has always had something soothing and mysterious about it," says Ulrich Tukur. With his Rhythmus Boys, he embarks full of esprit into the world of nocturnal strollers and brazen night owls, of dark fantasies and longing hearts. Above all, however, the four highly charming gentlemen once again pay homage to the popular music of the 1930s to 1950s with great passion. Their new album "Es leuchten die Sterne" ("The stars are shining") brings together hits, swing and jazz from the USA, Germany, Italy and France. Interpreted in a free-spirited, casual and elegant manner.

"We now play better than we look. In the beginning, it was the other way round." The actor, writer and musician talks about his rhythm boys, with whom he has been making music since 1995, with a great deal of humour and warmth. They recorded the record at the legendary Hansa Studios in Berlin, Tukur's new adopted home since 2019 after years in Venice. He has set up a music room above his flat - including a gramophone and sheet music archive. "It's a real opium den. East Asian, oriental and Venetian furnishings. We arranged, rehearsed and laboured over the rooftops of Berlin." The four of them are a well-grooved combo: Kalle Mews on drums, Ulrich Mayer on guitar, Günter Märtens on double bass and Tukur on piano, accordion and, of course, singing. Melting, abysmal, tongue-in-cheek.

In Charles Trenet's chanson "Le soleil et la lune", Ulrich Tukur & Die Rhythmus Boys tell of the impossible love between the moon and the sun with dancing lightness. "Nasse Lyrik" takes us into the big city at night with expressionist intensity. And the ballroom classic "Tuxedo Junction" sounds wonderfully casual in the boys' version. Just like in the number "Music, Maestro, Please", the trumpet of Till Brönner sounds with narrative coolness. The star musician learnt to love the sound of the Rhythm Boys when Tukur and his wife Katharina John hosted salons in their Schöneberg home. Illustrious gatherings with personalities such as Eva Mattes, Angela Winkler, Volker Schlöndorff and Ben Becker. "I love the old salon culture. Reciting a poem, giving a speech, making music.
