Info for Fux: Kaiserrequiem - Pergolesi: Missa in D Major (Live)
One, Johann Joseph Fux, is primarily known as a music theorist, the other, Giovanni Battista Pergolesi, as the author of the popular «Stabat Mater». Both can be experienced from a completely different angle on this album with the Ensemble Zeronove under the direction of Lukas Wanner.
The Swiss ensembles Zeronove and I Pizzicanti have made it their mission to bring unknown music back to life. This is wonderfully demonstrated here with two marvellous works by Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Johann Joseph Fux.
Fux was not only the famous counterpoint teacher of the 18th century (from whom Mozart also benefited), as a court musician in Vienna he also wrote this Requiem, for example, which was composed in 1720 for the funeral of the Empress Dowager Eleonore Magdalene and was still used for many a funeral service at the Habsburg court afterwards.
Pergolesi’s mass was probably composed 10 years later, around 1730. This extensive sacred work is also a discovery and shows a completely different side of the «Stabat Mater» composer.

ZERONOVE
The professional vocal ensemble ZERONOVE, based in Basel, was founded in 2009 and consists of singers trained as soloists. Its aim is to perform often lesser-known vocal music with high musical standards and mostly with a chamber music ensemble. The ensemble also offers the predominantly young singers a platform for solo experiences and thereby supports them in their artistic careers. Depending on the requirements of the works to be performed, the ensemble is supplemented by very advanced vocal students. Stylistically, the programs are characterized by great diversity, with the main focus being on predominantly sacred vocal music from the Renaissance, Baroque and Classical periods, taking into account practical performance knowledge. The vocal ensemble ZERONOVE has been invited on various occasions to take part in concert series and festivals (Giacinto Scelsi Festival, Basel / Music in Evening Prayer, Stein am Rhein / Musique des Lumières / Forum for Early Music, Zurich / Baroque Center Bern). Concert recordings will be broadcast by Radio RTS / Espace 2 and Radio SRF2 / Kultur.
Luke Wanner
is the founder and artistic director of the professional vocal ensemble ZERONOVE. Born and raised in Basel, he has been involved in various forms of musical expression since early childhood. In 2005, he received a certificate of choral conducting at the Zurich University of Music, since then he has regularly trained in choir and orchestra conducting (including Volker Hempfling, Beat Schaefer, Josef Zaugg, Ralph Weikert, Frieder Bernius, Liutauras Balciunas, Lior Shambadal, Martin Sieghart). In July 2010 he completed his church music studies at the Lucerne University of Music (Pascal Mayer), and from 2011-2012 he completed postgraduate studies in orchestral conducting with Prof. Ralf Weikert in Lucerne.
Since 2004, he has directed various choirs and ensembles in northwestern Switzerland: 2006-2013 choir of the Predigerkirche Basel, since 2009 various concert projects with the vocal ensemble ZERONOVE (especially in the areas of Renaissance, Baroque and classical music), 2014-2018 director of the “Choeur Vivaldi” in Delémont.
