Info for esho funi (Blue Keys Studio Version)
It was clear from the outset that Jef Neve & Teus Nobel's first duo album ‘Esho-Funi’ was to be a live album. Although the two musicians can also feel their connection in the studio, their synergy and joy of playing is best realised in front of a live audience. The intimate concert hall of Pianos Maene (Ruiselede, Belgium) was therefore chosen for the recordings. Not only the quality of the grand piano was decisive, but also the excellent acoustics were an absolute advantage.
The title chosen was ‘Esho Funi’. The Buddhist principle of the same name symbolises the unity of human life with its environment. The duo Neve | Nobel would like to convey this message, especially in these times when conflicts are flaring up in so many places in the world.
From jazz classics to original compositions - The album features jazz classics such as ‘Here's That Rainy Day’ (J. van Heusen) and ‘Bluesette’ (T. Thielemans), as well as original compositions. Jef Neve wrote the soulful ‘Tin Wedding’, which is dedicated to the tin wedding[3] of a dear friend. Waiting For A Train’ also has a blues vibe, while “Weekend Is On” is more frivolous and uptempo. Teus Nobel wrote the title track ‘Esho Funi’ and the spatial composition ‘Floating’, which is inspired by a caravan travelling through the desert.
