Info for Das große Adventskonzert (Das Studioalbum zum Konzert im Stadion)

When, shortly before Christmas, more than 25,000 people flock to the stadium for the big Advent concert and hundreds of thousands of TV viewers take their seats in their living rooms, then for many Dresdeners the Christmas season really begins. What began in 2015 as part of the celebrations for the anniversary of the world-famous Dresdner Kreuzchor has now become one of the largest and most beautiful Christmas events in Germany: flanked by stars from the international music world, one of the best boys' choirs in the world presents the most famous Christmas melodies in classical and modern arrangements. Just in time for Christmas 2020 the new studio album is finally available.

The new album captures the unique atmosphere of this special event on double CD and brings it into your living room. At its centre is the eight-century old Dresdner Kreuzchor under the direction of Roderich Kreile. He is accompanied by the Cross Bell Orchestra, which was founded especially for this purpose: renowned band and studio musicians from all over Germany, who, under the direction of Peter Christian Feigel, are also the perfect musical partners for the Crucians for the studio album. Sensitively and with great joy of playing and singing, they bring the sophisticated arrangements of the Christmas classics to life.

The album features old acquaintances of the Advent concert as well as new musical partners of the Kreuzchor: In a duet with the choir, rock legend Peter Maffay enchants with his Tabaluga hit "Nessaja - Ich wollte nie erwachsen sein", while Finnish star soprano Camilla Nylund and the Crucians bring the atmosphere of Scandinavian Christmas to Germany. Tenor Klaus Florian Vogt is at home on all stages of the world and with "O holy Night" and "Adeste fidelis" also a guest on the album. Sabrina Weckerlin sets musical and soul accents, adding another facet to the special genre mix. The same goes for Norwegian trumpeter Tine Thing Helseth and her very own Christmas sound. The Christmas story from the Gospel of Luke, read by Samuel Koch, completes the new studio album.

The creation also makes it clear that this album is something special: under strict hygiene conditions, the recording had to be split up like a pop music production - from the band to the individual vocal groups to the soloists - which represented a whole new challenge, especially for the Crucians, which they mastered brilliantly. Through the commitment of all participants, an album is created despite all adversities, which brings a piece of normality into an extraordinary Christmas.

The Dresden Kreuzchor
can look back on a great musical tradition, not just as a result of its long history – stretching back an incredible 800 years. The boys' choir is one of the world's foremost ensembles of its kind. The list of former “Crucians” across the centuries reads like a Who's Who of classical music. Great singers like Theo Adam, Peter Schreier and René Pape, conductors like Hartmut Haenchen and Hansjörg Albrecht, composers like Carl Heinrich and Johann Gottlieb Graun, Torsten Rasch and Udo Zimmermann – to mention just a few – were all boy choristers at the Kreuzkirche. The education offered at the Kreuzschule and in the choir unites Lutheran liturgical service in the Kreuzkirche alongside many opportunities for performances in Dresden, throughout Germany and at international venues on many tours. There are sound recordings of the Kreuzchor going back to 1937, when the choir's development was significantly influenced by its long-time director, the composer Rudolf Mauersberger. The present choir director, Roderich Kreile, continues to further the tradition and the discography has been expanded by many more recordings, ranging from Bach's Christmas Oratorio through to folk songs, sacred music and Brahms's Requiem. The repertoire incorporates music from the 16th century through to the present day, from Heinrich Schütz through to Mikis Theodorakis. The ensemble enjoys the status of a cultural ambassador for the city of Dresden and Germany and is seen in many quarters as a role model and standard bearer for musical education.
