Sami Junnonen
is an international flute soloist from Finland. He was born in Tampere in Central Finland in 1977 and moved to Helsinki in 1995 to study flute in the Sibelius Academy. He completed postgraduate studies at the National Conservatoire de Musique de Lyon and the Royal Conservatory of Copenhagen and then graduated Master of Arts with highest credits in 2008 from the Sibelius Academy. His 2012 Debut Recital in the Helsinki Music Centre of Finland was promoted by the Sibelius Academy and received outstanding reviews.
Respected for his versatility, Sami has established a widespread and renowned international career by giving recitals and featuring as soloist with symphony and chamber orchestras all over the world throughout Europe, Japan, China, U.S.A., and both South and Central America. He performs frequently in prestigious festivals and concert series. Sami has recorded for the Finnish Radio Broadcasting Company, Ondine, Naxos, Sony BMG, Alba and SibaRecords. He is a multiple prize winner of numerous international music competitions.
Sami has worked as principal flutist in Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, Tampere Philharmonia, Swedish Chamber Orchestra and Pori Sinfonietta. He is also an active composer and arranger.
