Tsuyuki & Rosenboom
are highly celebrated as one of the most exciting Piano Duos of their generation. The international press praises the “lavish sound colours” of the Duo, and raves about the “magic” of their playing. Critics speak of a “fascination, that nobody could resist”. The Magazine “Piano News” recently described their Debut CD with works by Franz Liszt as “Phenomenal”. Concerts have taken Tsuyuki & Rosenboom to the music centres of Europe, the USA and Asia. The japanese-german Duo with main residence in Hanover/Germany was established in 2009. Their interpretations are especially characterized by a deeply spirited playing and a unique and colorful tone.
Chie Tsuyuki and Michael Rosenboom got to know each other while studying at the College for music, theatre and media in Hanover. The Duo studied at the College of music, theatre and media Hanover in the soloist class of Prof. Bernd Goetzke, who is regarded as the last pupil of Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli.
2010, after winning the first prize and the Kawai award at the “International Piano Duo Competition Tokyo”, the Duo was invited to play concerts in the largest concert series of Germany (Weltklassik am Klavier) and they also started their international concert activities. 2011 they were invited to play a recital at St.Martin-in-the-Fields in London. On the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the radio series NDR Kultur “START – Young artists Live” the duo was presented to a wide audience in Germany. 2012 the classical music radio station of Chicago WFMT broadcasted a recital program of the Duo. In Germany the Duo performed repeatedly with great success the Concert for two pianos by Poulenc with the GSO Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Christoph-Mathias Mueller. Several times they also performed Saint-Saens’ “Le carnaval des animaux” (the carnival of the animals) together with the german actor Christian Quadflieg and the GSO Symphony Orchestra.
Tsuyuki & Rosenboom have been granted numerous awards at international competitions and festivals. 2013 the Duo won the first prize at the “International Music Competition Pietro Argento” in Italy, 2014 the first prize as well as the Grieg special award at the International Competition for Piano Duos “Grieg à deux” in Oslo, Norway. Among other, they were also Prizewinner of the London International Music Competition, International Piano Duo Competition Tokyo, International Chicago “Liszt 200” Piano Duo Competition. The Duo cooperated with different radio stations in Germany and the USA.
Although both musicians uphold the extensive standard repertoire of the genre, their concert programmes meanwhile also include largely unknown treasures of the repertoire and first performances of contemporary composers. In addition, Tsuyuki & Rosenboom transcribe works from different epochs and genres for their instrumentation. In 2014 a recital programm with own transcriptions of the duo caused a sensation in Germany: “…a fascination, that nobody could resist” and “an acoustically and visually extraordinary event” were some of the comments you could read in the press. 2015 they were enthusiastically celebrated as guest artists at the “Chicago Duo Piano Festival” in the USA where they presented a recital including their own transcription of Liszt’s “Totentanz”. The cultural TV Channel Allegro HD repeatedly broadcasted a compilation of the Duo´s performances in their evening program and gave a huge audience a deep insight into the artistic work of the Duo. Currently Tsuyuki & Rosenboom are working on their next recording project, the release is planned for the beginning of 2019.
