Info for Destination Paris

A concept album of lean-back repertoire from popular film melodies to French chansons to classical pieces – including “La Foule” by Édith Piaf, the main theme from Summer of '42 by Michel Legrand, “Beau soir” by Debussy, Sicilienne by Fauré, and “Chi Mai” by Ennio Morricone.

Recorded with pianist Jérôme Ducros, the Maîtrise de Radio France, and the Orchestre de chambre de Paris under conductor Lionel Bringuier.

Jean Jacques Goldman, one of France’s most popular songwriters and composers, wrote a new song for this album, “Pense à nous”, for cello, children's choir and orchestra and made a special arrangement of his “Envole-moi”.

For this latest exploration of the immense and rich repertoire of music, my guide has been...Paris. Absolute capital, cosmopolitan, poetic and ingenuous, whirlwind and cultured, punctuated by multiple inspirations, Paris, out of time, Paris, city of the 2024 Summer Olympics. Paris, inviting Rameau and adopting Offenbach, welcoming Cosma and paying tribute to Debussy, Fauré and Ravel. Paris, welcoming the premiere of Carmen and the first steps of Franz Lehar, humming Francis Lai and Michel Legrand, walking hand in hand with Edith Piaf and Yves Montant. And Jean-Jacques Goldman, whom I've admired since I was a child thanks to my elder sister Aude, honours us with a previously unreleased song, Pense à nous. This album is the diary of that journey, my Paris and yours, through all the styles and eras. It's a never-ending reverie in which each work of art welcomes another. Once again, I have entrusted the cello arrangements to my faithful accomplice Jérôme Ducros, accompanied by the Orchestre de chambre de Paris conducted by my friend Lionel Bringuier.
