The Romanian-born tenor Stefan Pop has had an astonishing career. The son of a shepherd's family in rural Romania, has long been at home on the big stages, including Faust at the Royal Opera House and Lucia di Lammermoor at the Teatro Verdi di Trieste.

Stefan Pop
was born in Bistrița, Romania. He studied and graduated from the Ghoerghe Dima Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. Operalia award winner Stefan Pop is one of the most sought-after tenors internationally, particularly in the Italian repertoire, from bel canto to Verdi and Puccini. Stefan Pop's 2023/24 season begins with Don Carlo at the Berlin State Opera, where he celebrated his acclaimed role debut in the title role last season. He will also return to Berlin as Pinkerton (Madame Butterfly). At the Royal Opera House Covent Garden in London, Stefan Pop will sing Duca (Rigoletto) and Rodolfo (La bohème). The Bavarian State Opera has invited him to sing Macduff (Macbeth). He will appear as Rodolfo at the Tokyo Spring Festival in Tokyo and in Trondheim. Highlights of recent seasons have included his role debut as Cavaradossi (Tosca) in London and Rodolfo in Liège alongside Angela Gheorghiu. Stefan Pop has also been celebrated as Duca in Taormina under the direction of Placido Domingo and as Rodolfo at the Vienna State Opera. Stefan Pop sings at the world's leading opera houses such as the Berlin State Opera, the Royal Opera House Covent Garden London, the Opéra de Paris, the Hamburg State Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Zurich Opera House, the Teatro Real Madrid, the Frankfurt Opera and the New Israeli Opera Tel Aviv. Stefan Pop is a regularly celebrated guest in Japan. In Dresden he will be heard at the Semperoper as Don Carlo and with the Philharmonic Orchestra in Verdi's Requiem.
