Info for Reflections: Oneness

Swiss Jazz Award 2023 winner Christoph Grab presents his latest work with his excellent REFLECTIONS ensemble: "Oneness" (Lamento Rec).

Three wind instruments (saxophone, trumpet and trombone) play - in the truest sense of the word - with a rhythm section that couldn't be groovier. The music is again based on compositions by Thelonious Monk, which Grab gives his own twist through his arrangements to inspire the band and take them out of the ordinary.

The new album "Oneness" was recorded live in a single day. As well as creative reinterpretations of tunes familiar to the Monk fan, each member of the quintet is given the space and freedom to bring their own improvisational voice and energy to the music.

Penetrating swing grooves, complex interplay, extended Monk-influenced harmonies, bluesy melodies and edgy horn sections come together to create a musical statement that is fuelled by a love of tradition and contemporary individuality in equal measure.

"Take the time to listen to this album in depth, replay it; you’ll discover new things each time. It’s an album for enthusiasts, captivating, a pleasure-filled, joyful album – something much needed in these troubled times. Perhaps these are the reasons why the editorial teams at Bayou Blue Radio and Paris-Move have classified this album as essential."
